August 2006

The past week is definitely catching up with me. I’m sooo tired. I took a 2 hour nap today and I am still tired!!! I apologize in advance if this update is incoherent.. I’m about to fall asleep.

I’ve gone to each of my classes once now, except for my anatomy lab. Yesterday I had Written Comp and World Civilization. Both seem pretty easy. My World Civ prof was really nice. My english teacher was pretty nice, kind of… interesting, but the class seems pretty easy. She said it will be stuff we already know how to do, just polishing our skills, so it seems kind of like my english class from last year. I’m kind of excited about world civ, too. I usually don’t like history classes but this one seems really interesting and fun.

Today I had my Anatomy & Phyisiology class… which will obviously require a lot of studying, but I love that kind of stuff (not studying!…I love Anatomy). All the stuff we are going to study i’ve had before in high school. I know this is a college class so it’ll be harder, but at least I will have had exposure to it before, so I might actually have some sort of clue what’s going on. Then I had Old Testament Survey. It will be interesting, but there will be a lot of reading.

Anyway.. nothing else to say so you get visuals.

Just had my first class. It was Fitness for Health, which is good because I need to start exercising again. Normally in the fitness classes here your grade is based on points and you get points by exercising. but in my class he said it’s just based on attendance. As long as we sign in we’ll get an A and there will be one written test but he said a monkey could pass it. So, that’s good. He was really funny. I hope all of my classes go that well. We have to swim next Wednesday. just one lap across the pool to prove that we know how to swim. You have to be able to swim to graduate…

Next class at 11. Written Comp.

Note to self/To-Do:
• talk to Jennifer in business services
• talk to Amy in career services
• drop off my mail

So classes start tomorrow!!!

I’ve met even cooler people since everyone else is on campus now too. I’ve met 3 people I really like so far- Kourtney (she’s from Germany!), Stephanie and Beth. They’re awesome! We went to the Howdy Party tonight and then a Lambda Chi party.

More details later. Class at 9:00. Must sleep.

I’ve found something I don’t like about Union…

WE HAVE BUGS!!!

There is a huge gross bug in the kitchen sink and in the bathroom! And there was a spider in the bathroom too. Yuck! I hate bugs!

I finally met my new roommate though. Her name is Tina. She’s pretty nice. She seems kind of laid back compared to me, Kristen and Katy, but she’s really nice. She’s a senior..which is kinda odd but oh well. I guess she will fit in with us okay.

I meant to go to bed like an hour ago, but I’ve been on the phone forever…and been trying to get the bug situation under control. eek. I talked to my cutest mom today! yayayay!! I miss her :(

Must go to bed now. Orientation is over tomorrow. (yay!) Kristen and Katy come tomorrow too! (yay!!)

Hey people! Write to me! send me cookies…flowers…presents! Send me stuff! (letters are good, too!)

Copy exactly like that! :)

Wow finally a free minute! They’ve kept us pretty busy.So I survived my first night all alone. I’m safe and sound in my new apartment. My room is nice and cozy. Moving in was really easy because they had so many people there to help you unload your stuff. I only carried one small box and a bag of my own stuff. I went back for another load and it was all gone. We thought that would be the worst part but it went really well. Then me, my mom and my aunt, had a few hours to get everything unpacked. There is a lot more storage space than I thought I’d have which is good. I’ll post pictures of it at some point. After a few trips to Wal-Mart and lots of organizing, my room is finally starting to feel “homey.”

They put us into Focus groups, which in my case is a group of all the transfer students. Last night we had the Focus Show, which is a show where all the Focus leaders do skits for us. I unexpectedly was in the Focus Show. I didn’t even volunteer, some dude just picked me. Everyone seemed to actually be genuinely enjoying themselves, which was nice to see. Today our Focus group went on a scavenger hunt around Jackson. So, I kind of know where stuff is now. It’s all pretty close to campus which helps.

I really like it here so far.

Tonight is dinner at 5 and then a game show at…8:30 I think. Another busy night ahead!….

So it is my last night home. The day has finally come. In less than 12 hours I will be on my way. I can’t believe it. It feels weird. It’s kind of sad…I’m nervous…but in a way I’m excited. I mean I am excited, it’s just scary.  I know it will be a good thing though, and I know it’s what I need. I just keep thinking about all the bad things that have happened, or could happen, and probably even will happen. I wish I was one of those people who could be completely content in every situation. But yeah, that’s something I’m working on…

We’re leaving here around 5 or 5:30am. I’ll be in Jackson around 10 or so.. which is only 9 their time. so at least I gain an hour! But obviously we’ll stop to eat breakfast and stuff, so that’ll take up some time. I hope I sleep better tonight than I did last night. Last night I could not fall asleep for anything. It was horrible.

I wish I could spend more time with people before I leave… but I am pretty happy because I have seen pretty much everyone that is important to me this summer. I can’t complain. this summer was good. Yeah, there were some rocky parts (the whole month of June) but it’s okay. I’ve learned a lot. I feel like I’ve grown a lot. and while nothing overly exciting happened, I spent a lot of time with the people I care about. I got to see my Uncle Bill that I hadn’t seen in I don’t even know how many years, and he’s back in my life for good now too, and that’s awesome. A lot of my family actually came in town for my birthday party! Which I also think is awesome. I was thinking today that I can’t remember the last time one of my brothers was there for my birthday. I don’t even know if they’ve ever come. Not because they hate me, just because of circumstances growing up and stuff. And besides at my birthday party, I got to see them a lot this summer too, which is a lot better than us only seeing eachother on holidays which is what used to happen. and I’ve gotten to hang out with a lot of friends that I hadn’t spent as much time with for awhile…like Shelly and Meredith, and it’s not like I hadn’t talked to Moses in a year or anything but I hung out with her a lot too! and I got to hang out with Jeremy some before he left, and I met Amy who is pretty cool too. and I got to meet a lot of cool people in Pittsburgh as well. I don’t know if they’llbe life-long friends or anything, but you never know, and the experience was good either way. So all in all, it was a good summer.  :)

And now I guess it’s time to say goodbye. I will see most of you in a couple months… this is it until I’m there! Wish me luck!!!

I love you guys!!

Today Shelly and I went all the way to Bardstown Road to eat gelato! (Gelato n: Amazingly good Italian ice cream that I lived off of when I was in Italy)  But they were closed!! :-[ Sad day.
So, we decided to go to Baskin Robbins, they have 31 flavors ya know. Not as good as gelato, but good nonetheless.  But Shelly decided she was hungry before we got there so we stopped at Taco Bell. Then we went to Baskin Robbins. It was good… but I still wish we had gelato.
Shelly is about to have her baby. It’s actually due in a month, but she decided tomorrow would be a good day to have it. I doubt that happens though. It would be cool though ’cause then I’d still be here when she has it.

I leave in 4 days!!!!! I can’t believe it. I’m kinda scared. But I found out today that we’ll have another roommate. So that is kinda cool. I hope she moves in on Saturday too so I don’t have to be by myself. It’s kinda weird, I haven’t been forced to meet new people in a long time. I used to do it all the time… and I’m pretty good at making new friends, I just havent done it in awhile. But I’m kind of excited about it. I know that no matter what type of expectations I make for this year, I have no clue what I am getting into. I know that in just 4 days my life is going to be completely different than it is right now, and has ever been. I just hope that everything turns out to be better than I expect instead of worse.

I’m almost done packing. Sort of. I’m a lot farther along with it than I was yesterday. A lot of stuff is finally in boxes….so I’ll have plenty of time to do 917926348923 last minute checks for things over the next few days.

Yay?

The news people tried to interview my mom today about us being annexed. She wouldn’t do it though. She said she looked too bad and wasn’t “verbal” enough. Okay, I understand the not being verbal enough part, I guess, but my mother is freakin beautiful and I wish she would quit talking about looking bad!!!! There is a reason she is called HOT MOMMA!

Ok, time for more packing.

Does anyone have Xanga, or some other type of blog? I was thinking about getting one (in additon to LJ) to write out different thoughts and things…(rather than a daily play-by-play of my life)…so just wondering if anyone else is on there, too.

I hate packing.
